Joining Cascade Jiu Jitsu is one of the best life decisions I have made in recent years. Starting Jiu Jitsu at 45 years old was pretty intimidating, but from my first day on the mats, I knew this was the place for me. Professor Andrew is an accomplished martial artist for sure, but he is also a fantastic teacher and even a better person. He genuinely cares about his students and makes sure that safety is the number one priority. This is truly Jiu Jitsu for everyone: he makes sure those that want to compete get all they need to excel, but also recognizes that others are here for reasons besides competition. Cascade Jiu Jitsu is very family friendly, as my wife and I train together regularly, and our training partners have truly become an extended family for us. If you are on the fence about starting Jiu Jitsu, give Cascade a try. After over 3 years here, I am convinced it is the best training in the NorthWest, and feel so fortunate to be a part of the amazing community Andrew has built.
I have been in many clubs, academies, and practice rooms over the years as a grappler, and Cascade Jiu-Jitsu is hands down the best. Professor Andrew is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to Jiu-Jitsu. He is very well-rounded and has a great balance to what he teaches. He is open to new techniques and training methods whether from Judo, wrestling, or the evolution of sport jiu-jitsu. I feel very fortunate that he is capable and willing to teach a multitude of guards and styles, and he will no-doubt help you develop regardless of what your “game." With that being said, he never loses sight of the self-defense side of Jiu-Jitsu. There is something for everybody in this academy, whether you’re an avid competitor looking for hard rolls, or a hobbyist with no intention of sparring hard. Andrew does a tremendous job ensuring everyone can train with everyone. A great academy is not just about the technique and sparring, however, and Professor Andrew excels in bringing those other aspects into the training environment. Over the years I have became great friends with Andrew, and his passion and enthusiasm are never absent. We have a great community at our academy, and it really is one big family. This is evident from the many couples and families that train together. The feeling is always welcoming and respectful, and as a Professor, Andrew is honest and loyal to his students. I highly recommend Cascade Jiu-Jitsu for both the technical and community aspects.
Cascade Jiu-Jitsu is a great family friendly gym full of kind and welcoming team members. There is a true sense of family in this gym. As a wife and mother to three energetic boys I am very fortunate to have found Jiu Jitsu as a way of life for my family. We train together, compete together, and grow together under the caring tutelage of Professor Andrew Solheim.
The first day I walked in the door at Cascade BJJ everyone was so helpful and welcoming. The gym is clean, and the vibe is friendly and fun. The students train hard and encourage each other while training smart and safe. Professor Andrew Solheim runs a top-notch academy and makes each person feel as if they are a valued part of the team. From top talent to hobbyist white belts he has created a great atmosphere with exceptional training partners. As a highly skilled black belt, he has a gift for teaching, breaking down technique step by step. He is patient, down to earth and encouraging and will meet you where you want to go with your jiu-jitsu journey. If you are looking for a great place to train this is the best place around.
